Anyone who is not an Australian citizen needs a visa to enter and remain lawfully in Australia. There are around 150 visa subclasses and it’s important to choose the right one for your circumstances.

The visa process is relatively straightforward if you are simply planning a holiday or a short business trip but if you want to live and work in Australia, the procedure is more complex.

The various visa categories can be broadly grouped as follows:

Skilled Migration
There are a number of visa options for professionals, tradespersons and recent Australian graduates to apply to live and work in Australia provided they can fill occupations required in Australia. Some visa subclasses in this category are points-tested and some require sponsorship from an eligible family member or a State/Territory Government. more info……

Family Migration
Australian Citizens, permanent residents and eligible New Zealand citizens may sponsor their spouses and dependent children for migration. There is also provision to sponsor other family members but it is generally more difficult to satisfy the stricter criteria. more info…..

Employer Sponsored Migration
For lawfully operating employers in Australia and overseas to import workers to fill Australia’s skills shortages. There are both temporary and permanent visa options in this category. Employers must sponsor the visa applicant and honour their legal obligations as a sponsor. more info…..

Business and Investment
Visa options include short-stay visits to attend conferences, training or negotiations with an Australian business. There are long-term options for those who want to establish a business in Australia or manage a new or existing business or invest in Australia.

Working Holidays
The Working Holiday and Work & Holiday programs allow young people aged between 18 and 30 to travel in Australia and take up incidental employment to supplement their funds. more info…..

Students
There is a range of student visas available depending on the level of study. There are currently opportunities for students to remain in Australia permanently under the Skilled Migration Program on completion of an accredited course of study. more info…..

Refugee / Humanitarian Program
Australia is a signatory to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol and is required to consider applications from individuals who request protection. more info…..
